When Dean was 12 his very first heat turned out to be a brutal disaster. Complications result in Dean’s left damaged beyond repair, effectively a beta. Despite this, when Sam first popped his knot, Dean suspected Sam might be his mate. A few omega hormone shots and he'd know it for sure. But being a defective omega he didn't think he deserved any alpha, let alone his precious baby brother. Dean keeps his distance, and when Sam leaves for Stanford he knows it’s for the best.

Except then John goes missing and Dean has to collect his brother…

This was a bit of a challenge for me. The idea came from a prompt on the spn kinkmeme, and it would not leave me alone. Suffice it to say, this is not my normal sort of story, but it was a challenge, and one I was ultimately happy with. I could not have finished it without kiltsocks, though, whose support and beta’ing were oh so appreciated. Thank you, my lovely <3

for This kinkmeme prompt: After Sam decides to keep their relationship professional, and stops seeing Dean as his lover and cuts the bond they share. Dean starts to eat less, sleep less and only focus all his effort on hunts as that is the only time he is able to get any kind of interaction time with Sam.

Since an omega's mental state of mind is dependent on the emotional love and care they receive from their Alpha through the bond, Dean's starting to become mentally and emotionally drained. Dean is unable to bear this pain any longer, he is at the end of his rope. He understands that his Alpha doesn't trust him, doesn't want him as his lover anymore. Dean's certain that Sam couldn't care if he lived or died.

Dean decides that it would be better for Sam if he's out of the picture completely, since an Alpha is unable to take in another mate till the current is alive. Dean makes sure that he acts a normal as he possibly can and doesn't raise any doubt. He goes to a remote place without leaving any clues as to where it is, and decides to slit his wrists. Due to his emotional instability,Dean believes he's removing a bad influence, namely, himself from the world.

Cas, whom suddenly feels the pain that Dean due to their "profound bond" is suffering rushes to the bunker only to met with a frantic Sam whom has finally realized how much his words and actions has damaged Dean and feels the pain his Omega is going through the bond he reopen after being unable to locate Dean in the bunker.

They find Dean in the nick of time and Cas heals Dean and Cas gives Sam hell as they are driving back to the bunker for his attitude and tells him to take better care of his mate before Cas comes with some painful way to punish Sam.

Once back in the bunker, Sam tells Dean how much he still loves his mate and begs for forgiveness for all his past actions and shows Dean thorough tender loving how much Dean means to him and how much he will always love Dean.

This also fills my square for Dean/Sam in the spnpairbingo!
