I saw this on
matchboximpala's journal, and I think it's a wonderful idea!
Spread Holiday cheer by leaving thoughtful comments on fanworks of your choice all throughout the month of December.
Let’s face it: fanfic, fanart, fanvids – they take love, dedication and time to make and the creators don’t get paid for it. Fanartists’ payment comes in kudos, likes and – most importantly – comments. Comments lets the artist know what really worked and that they didn’t spend their time, energy and love for nothing.
So how about a little challenge? Give back this December, like a reverse advent calendar. Don’t just leave kudos, likes or whatever other sites offer. Leave at least one thoughtful, in-depth comment on a fanwork of your choice every day throughout December. Wouldn’t it be awesome if you managed that? Just imagine the artist flailing at hearing some well-intended praise for their story, artwork or video – and I can assure you that it will happen. Whether you finally comment on that old favorite of yours, or leave a comment on the work just published minutes ago, you’ll make a fanartist extremely happy.
I try and leave a million comments anyway, but now I will do it consciously. As a writer (and I know most of you are writers and artists too) it means a lot to get feedback, so I really like being part of that positive loop :-)
(I am the sort of person who leaves comments on fics posted in 2006. Yes. I do that. I feel like a weird creeper, but I still want the people to know I enjoyed it).
So fly my pretty's! Go and held spread the joy this season.
